As a floral designer, every piece I create is an extension of my journey—a path that began with a love for creativity and blossomed into a full-fledged passion for floral design. But my story is not just about flowers; it’s about a commitment to quality, sustainability, and constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of florals.
I want to take a moment to share how Borrowed & Blüm came to life and how the principles that guide my work are at the heart of everything I do today.
From Scientist to Floral Designer: A Passion-Fueled Transition
Before I ever dreamed of working with florals, I was immersed in science. I spent years honing my analytical skills, solving problems, and making sense of complex systems. But deep down, I always had a creative side—a love for design, beauty, and artistry that eventually led me into the world of florals.
When I first started working as a florist, I knew that I wanted to create something special—something that stood apart from typical flower arrangements. That’s when the idea for Borrowed & Blüm was born: a business that would combine the beauty of flowers with a commitment to sustainability, luxury, and innovation. I quickly realized that the combination of high-quality faux flowers and fresh designs could provide clients with the best of both worlds—stunning beauty, reliability, and a longer-lasting, eco-friendly solution.
Sustainability at the Heart of Borrowed & Blüm
One of the driving forces behind Borrowed & Blüm is a commitment to sustainability. As a small business owner, I recognize the impact that the floral industry can have on the environment. Fresh flowers often come with a short lifespan, and their carbon footprint can be significant, especially when they’re shipped from far-flung locations.
That’s where silk flowers come in. High-quality faux flowers are highly durable, which means they can be used in designs over and over again, leading to less waste. Not only do these flowers hold up better over time, but they also provide a more reliable solution for large installations, where longevity is key. I also strive to ensure that every design, whether made of faux flowers or fresh blooms, is thoughtfully crafted to minimize waste in all stages of production—from sourcing the flowers to the final installation.
This commitment to sustainability isn’t just about the flowers themselves; it’s about offering a service that’s not only visually stunning but also environmentally conscious.
Designing with Purpose: Why Every Arrangement is Customized for You
Every event and every client has a unique vision. My goal is to bring that vision to life through floral design that tells a story. Whether it’s an intimate wedding or a grand corporate event, I take the time to get to know each client and their needs. From there, I work closely with them to create custom floral designs that feel personal, luxurious, and unforgettable.
But it’s not just about creating something beautiful—it’s about designing with purpose. Every arrangement is carefully crafted to enhance the atmosphere of your event, whether it’s through large-scale installations or smaller, more delicate pieces. I strive to provide designs that will not only impress but also leave a lasting impression, creating a seamless and magical experience for you and your guests.
The Importance of Growth and Continued Education
As a self-taught floral designer, I understand that there is always more to learn. That’s why I continuously invest in my education and seek out opportunities to refine my skills. Attending workshops, collaborating with other professionals, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques are all part of my commitment to offering the best possible designs for my clients.
One of the most exciting experiences for me in the coming week is attending the 2025 Luxury Floral Installation Workshop by Sarah Campbell of Intrigue Designs. It will be an immersive experience that will give me the tools and techniques to expand my floral design capabilities, especially when it comes to large-scale installations (the photo above is from the New Orleans tour stop, I'll be attending their workshop hosted in Raleigh).
I’ll be diving deeper into what I learn in a future post, but I wanted to share that attending such workshops is what allows me to keep offering new and innovative services to my clients—whether you’re looking for dramatic silk flower installations or a hybrid of fresh and faux florals.
What to Expect When You Work With Me
When you choose Borrowed & Blüm, you’re choosing a florist who is not only committed to creating breathtaking designs but also to providing a seamless, stress-free experience. From the first consultation to the final installation, I’ll be there every step of the way, ensuring that your floral vision is brought to life with precision, creativity, and care.
My goal is simple: to create an unforgettable experience for you and your guests, leaving you with memories to cherish for years to come.
